The map shows the four parts of the Village on either side of the River Irwell. The railway runs from Heywood to Rawtenstall and during light hours stops at Irwell Vale Halt. The Methodist Church in the Mill Village is a focal point for the community. The factory is all that remains of Thomas Aitken's Mills and is home to "Sigma Soaps". The white house to the side of the Church is Rivermead and used to be a Social Club and once home to the Dewhurst family who owned the land and surrounding buildings
