Some views of the Village

The Residents' Association Committee meet with a range of agencies and this is taken from our meeting last year with Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Borough Council to help us improve facilities for residents and to make these organisations aware of what Irwell Vale, Hardsough, Meadow Park and Lumb can offer.

The village becomes a scene from the Second World War with enactors from across the country visiting the village for the Whit Weekend. The East Lancashire Railway provides a "War Weekend" and uses the village and Methodist Church to provide a back drop to the enactors and thousands of tourists.

The Methodist Church is the centre of our community and provides;

  • a place of worship
  • weddings, christenings and funerals
  • an area that can be used by the local and wider community
  • a meeting place and
  • a Tea Room at weekends for those exploring the beauty of the local area.
The value of the Methodist Church cannot be doubted and the Residents' Association support this unique facility - because, like all Churches, repairs, running costs and ongoing usage make significant demands on the core of people in and outside the village who keep the Church as vibrant a place as it is.
